Emirates Post Launches Dubai Tennis Championships Stamps in Association with Dubai Duty Free

- The special Dh 1 and Dhs 3 stamps available in all post offices -

Dubai Tennis Championships stampsDubai, UAE, February 19th, 2007: A set of commemorative Dubai Tennis Championships stamps was released by Emirates Post in collaboration with Dubai Duty Free, owners and organizers of the Middle East’s showpiece tennis event which started today (February 19).

The stamps were released by Mr. Abdulla Al Daboos, Director General, Emirates Post and Mr. Colm McLoughlin, Managing Director, Dubai Duty Free, at a ceremony held at the Dubai Tennis Stadium.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Al Daboos said: “The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships has put Dubai firmly on the global tennis map, as evidenced by the impressive line-up of impressive tennis players taking part this year. This is certainly an event worth celebrating through a commemorative stamp.

“Emirates Post is delighted to pay a philatelic tribute to one of the biggest sporting events on the sporting calendar, in association with Dubai Duty Free, by issuing these special stamps. I am sure these stamps will be snapped up by sports lovers as well as stamp collectors from the region and all over the world. We extend our good wishes for the success of this year’s event.”

Mr. McLoughlin, while thanking Emirates Post for its support in paying a philatelic tribute to the Dubai Tennis Championships, said: “Last year, a record crowd of 125,000 watched the championships, and this year interest has been even more frenzied. We are confident that by launching special stamps to commemorate the success of Dubai Tennis Championships, we would be raising the event’s profile even further globally.”

“True to its name, the Dubai Tennis Championships has lined up an all-star cast for this year’s edition, including Justine Henin, Martina Hingis, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.”

Also present on the occasion were Mr. Salah Tahlak, Tournament Director and Director, Corporate Communications, Dubai Duty Free, and senior officials from Emirates Post.

The stamps, in denominations of Dh. 1, Dhs. 3, are available in all post offices in the UAE. First Day Covers, priced at Dhs. 5 each, are available at Dubai Central Post Office in Karama, Deira Main Post Office and Abu Dhabi Central Post Office.
